Teak is the common name for the tropical hardwood tree species Tectona grandis and its wood products. Tectona grandis is a large, deciduous tree that can grow up to 40m. It is native to India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Laos.
Teak is a yellowish brown timber with good grain and texture. Over time, teak matures into a silvery-grey finish. It is well suited to outdoor furniture due to it's high oil content, tensile strength and tight grain. Teak's natural oils make the timber termite and pest resistant, and extremely durable in its untreated state.
