Saman Raintree (Trembesi)

Raintree (or Trembesi) is the common name for Pithecelobium Saman. Saman is a wide canopied tree with a large symmetrical crown. The tree is native to the Yucatan Peninsula, and Guatemala south to Peru, Bolivia and Brazil. However, the tree has been widely naturalized to South and Southeast Asia.

It's heartwood is a dark brown colour that seasons into a golden brown with darker streaks. The sapwood is thin and yellowish. It may be straight or cross grained. Trembesi furniture is highly decorative due to its beautiful colouring.
